What Is Jamb Exam
The JAMB CBT exam stands for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Computer-Based Test. It’s a standardized exam that students in Nigeria take to qualify for admission into tertiary institutions like universities, polytechnics, and colleges. The exam is conducted on a computer and covers subjects like English, Mathematics, and other relevant subjects depending on the chosen field of study. JAMB MANDATE
The legal instrument establishing the Board was promulgated by the Act (No. 2 of 1978) of the Federal Military Government on 13th February, 1978. By August 1988, the Federal Executive Council amended Decree No. 2 of 1978. The amendments have since been codified into Decree No. 33 of 1989, which took effect from 7th December, 1989. Decree No. 2 of 1978 (amended by Decree No. 33 of 1989) empowered the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to:
(a) conduct Matriculation Examination for entry into all Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education (by whatever name called) in Nigeria
(b) appoint Examiners, Moderators, Invigilators, members of the Subject Panels and committees and other persons with respect to matriculation examinations and any other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.
(c) place suitably qualified candidates in the tertiary institutions after having taken into account:
(i) the vacancies available in each tertiary institution
(ii) the guidelines approved for each tertiary institution by its proprietors or other competent authorities
(iii) the preference expressed or otherwise indicated by the candidates for certain tertiary institutions and courses
(iv) such other matters as the Board may be directed by the Honorable Minister to consider or the Board itself may consider appropriate in the circumstances.
(d) collate and disseminate information on all matters relating to admissions into tertiary institutions or any other matter relevant to the discharge of functions of the board.
(e) carry out other activities as are necessary or expedient for the full discharge of all or any of the functions conferred on it under or pursuant to this Decree .
JAMB 2025 REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
To register for the JAMB exam, you will need to follow these procedures:
- Create a JAMB profile: Visit the JAMB registration portal and create a profile by providing your personal information.

● Send the message to either 55019 or 66019
● You will receive your ten (10) digit JAMB profile code.

- STEPS TO CREATE JAMB PROFILE CODE
- Obtain the JAMB ePIN: Pay for the JAMB ePIN at designated banks or online platforms. You will need this ePIN to complete your registration.
- Visit an accredited CBT center: Locate an accredited JAMB CBT center near you and visit it to complete your registration. Bring along your ePIN, profile code, and other necessary documents.
- Provide your biometric data: At the CBT center, you will undergo biometric verification, including capturing your fingerprints and photograph.
- Provide your academic details: Fill in your academic qualifications and other required information.
- Select your preferred institution and course: Choose the institution and course you wish to apply for.
- Review and submit your registration: Double-check all the information you have provided, make any necessary corrections, and submit your registration.
Have These Six (6) Things Ready Before JAMB Registeration
- National Identification Number (NIN): You must have a valid NIN. It is a unique number that identifies you as a Nigerian citizen and is necessary for all JAMB candidates.
- Biodata: These are your personal details and include your full name, date of birth, email address, phone number, and home address.registration. These details should match the information on your NIN.
- O’Level results: These include WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, IJMB, JUPEB, or any result that’s necessary either as UTME or DE applicant. For those who have none yet, no problem – you can indicate as an awaiting result candidate.
- Choice of institution and course: You should already have an idea of the institution you want to attend, and course you want to study before registering for JAMB. Your course will determine the subject combination you will select during the registration process.
- Subject Combination: This comprises four subjects you’ll sit for during the exam, of which Use of English is compulsory. Subject Combination is actually determined by the course you want to study. - Registration fee: You will need to pay a non-refundable registration fee to complete your JAMB registration. For 2024, keep a minimum of #7,000 for your JAMB registeration
JAMB 2024 REGISTRATION DATES AND DEADLINES
When is 2024 Jamb Registration Starting and Ending: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the date for the sales of form for the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to the board, the registration for the UTME will commence on Monday 15th January 2024 and end on Monday, 26th February 2024.

JAMB 2024 EXAM DATE
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Wednesday 29th November, announced the dates for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said that the 2024 UTME will be conducted from Friday April 19, 2024 to Monday, April 29, 2024. Candidates who wish to sit for the examination are advised to visit the JAMB website (www.jamb.gov.ng) to download the registration template and syllabus system (IBASS). The registration template contains the instructions and guidelines for the registration process, while the syllabus system provides the topics and objectives for each subject.
The board also said that candidates are required to create a profile on the JAMB service website ([e-facility]) before proceeding to any accredited CBT centre for registration. The board warned that candidates should not register at any centre that is not accredited by JAMB, as such registration will not be valid. The board also said that candidates should ensure that they have a valid email address and phone number before starting the registration process.
The board said that the Mock-UTME, which is optional, will be held on Thursday, 7th March, 2024. Candidates who wish to participate in the mock-UTME are expected to indicate their interest during the registration process. The board said that the mock-UTME is meant to familiarize candidates with the CBT environment and test their readiness for the main examination.
“Candidates are expected to print their examination slips as of 10th April 2024. Candidates are enjoined to take note of these dates and other advisories issued by the Board in relation to the administration of the examination. They are also to visit the Board’s website www.jamb.gov.ng for any other information.”
The board also said that candidates should note that there are some changes in the UTME subjects and requirements for some courses and programmes in some tertiary institutions. The board advised candidates to consult the JAMB brochure (PDF) to confirm the UTME subjects and requirements for their chosen courses and institutions. The board said that candidates should also check the admission quota and cut-off marks for their preferred institutions before applying.
